SEO is the acronym for Search Engine Optimization. It involves both technical and creative know-how. It is a method that enables you to increase your visibility organically (non-paid) on search engine results. If you have a website for your business, you’ll want to use the most current and best practices in SEO to help drive traffic, increase awareness, and improve your rankings within search engines. The higher your website appears on a search results page, the higher the number of visitors your site will get, and combined in with good User Experience (UX) design, your website will be a sales lead generating machine! At Webilize (Portfolio and Testimonials), we design and develop Responsive and Mobile Websites that use the best practices in SEO.

Although social media marketing makes up a large percentage of traffic to your website, search engines, such as Google, Bing, and Yahoo! Make up the primary source navigating visitors to your site. Search engines are continually working to improve its ability to crawl the web; however, still, focused and strategic SEO techniques are required to ensure that high-quality content doesn’t get buried on web search engines.

Google is infamous for updating its algorithms, search indexes, and refreshes:

  • Google Hummingbird
  • Google Mobile-Friendly Update
  • Google Panda Update
  • Google Penguin Update
  • Google Pigeon Update
  • Google Payday Update
  • Google Pirate Update
  • Google EMD (Exact Match Domain) Update
  • Google Top Heavy Update

In 2016 alone, there have already been three updates by Google thus far:

  • Google Confirms: Core Search Ranking Update took place but was not penguin related
  • Google AdWords Switching to 4 Ads on Top, None on the Sidebar
  • Google’s mobile-friendly algorithm boost rolled out

Here are some SEO strategies to help you rank on search engines:

Expand your Keyword Master List

Determine the best short and long-tail keywords and phrases. Once you’ve got a pretty good handle on some of your keywords, use Google’s Keyword Planner to expand on your keywords. This service comes free as part of your tools if you’re a Google AdWords user.

Keyword List Filtering

Using Google’s Keyword Planner, prioritize the order of your keywords from highest to lower position searched every month.

Use Google Suggest + Related Searches

Add Google’s Suggested keywords to your master list. You can find suggested words by typing different keywords, and the related search phrases will appear at the bottom of the page.

Understand your Target Market

You should learn your target market to create reliable to your audience content, and then to increase your business brand awareness. Since your customers are more than likely to share the content they like their networks (i.e. social media platforms), you’ll increase your organic reach.

Keyword Targeting for your Customers

On your keywords spreadsheet, you’ll have determined at this point which is the most relevant and useful for your users. Now apply those keywords on your Page Titles, Headers/Sub-headers, and other SEO opportunities within your metadata.

Content Writing

Ensure that you include your top relevant keywords and phrases, naturally within your content, i.e. don’t keyword stuff. Areas to include your keywords within your blogs are sub-headings, page titles, alt and title tags on all your images, and meta descriptions.

Sharing Content via Social Media

Share your keyword-optimized content to boost engagement in your target markets.

Re-purposing your Content and Ensure that its Click Worthy

To help keep the engagement going without having to write new time-consuming content time-consuming, schedule your content on your social media platforms using different images and copy. Not everyone is going to see and consume your content the first time you post it, so re-purpose your content.

Try out different mediums

Try out different mediums to continue the engagement within your business, i.e. videos, slideshows, infographics.
